About this home

A remarkable expression of mid-century California modernism, 2338 Lyric Avenue was conceived circa 1953 as a study in simplicity, light, nature, and harmony. Exemplary of its era and deeply aligned with the ideals that shaped the Case Study House Program of Arts & Architecture, the residence embodies the thinking of a generation of architects who transformed the California lifestyle. With its simple yet dynamic forms, open relationship to nature and effortless connection between interior and exterior, the home evokes the celebrated work of visionaries such as Cliff May, Pierre Koenig and Richard Neutra. Here, architecture is not imposed upon the landscape it becomes part of the landscape. Dramatically positioned on an oversized street to street lot in the coveted Franklin Hills, the residence is reached through private gates and drive, creating an immediate sense of discovery and seclusion. Mature landscaping surrounds the property, while expansive gardens become a living backdrop to the architecture. The architect's defining gesture was to dissolve the boundaries between inside and out. Walls of glass and open, flowing spaces extend toward the landscape. The result is an unusually immersive experience of California living - private, peaceful, and intimately connected to the natural world. Emotional in its setting and timeless in its design, 2338 Lyric is a rare opportunity to acquire an authentic mid-century modern residence that has remained cherished by the same owners for more than a quarter century. Incredible storage. Gated and private, with a detached two-car garage and moments from the studios, Los Feliz Village and Downtown Los Angeles, this is California modernism in its most compelling form.
