About this home

Long-time Brooklyn residents know about the stately mansions found along Albemarle Road, the park-like boulevard that forms the heart of this Landmarked neighborhood in Prospect Park South. 1112 Albemarle road was built in 1899 by famed developer Dean Alvord, who created a suburban like enclave in bustling Brooklyn, with huge homes and even bigger lots, this one at 8000 SF including a park-like backyard with mature trees and a long private driveway leading to a detached two-car garage. The Queen Anne style home is over 5500 square feet, and retains many original features and woodwork. Stained glass windows, fireplaces, an enclosed front porch, a large foyer leading to an impressive central staircase (one of two), this home has features and idiosyncrasies that have been lost to time. The main level features imported french tile flooring and contains a number of large rooms and salons, including a formal dining room, living room, family room, library, sunroom, and a powder room as well as the large kitchen. The second floor has 5 large bedrooms, all with at least two exposures and abundant closets, along with two full bathrooms. The third floor, in addition to two more bedrooms, contains the attic studio, a massive open space with 5 huge windows and soaring vaulted ceilings. Re-imagine this as an incredible primary bedroom, art studio, gym, office or playroom. The basement offers additional space for storage as well as laundry. Mechanicals were updated in 2019, as was the roof. The house has been in one family for decades and is ready to be transformed into whatever the next owners desire. The location is one of the most desirable in all of Brooklyn, near to prospect Park, with convenient subway access and great restaurants and cafes in adjacent Ditmas Park.
