About this home
This Iconic Princeton estate will be sold at luxury AUCTION on December 12, 2026. List price for REFERENCE ONLY. Offered in co-operation with Platinum Luxury Auctions. Call listing agent for details. Set on over 17 private acres along Stony Brook, minutes from Downtown Princeton and the main gates of Princeton University. Commissioned and built in 1930 by investment banker, philanthropist, and Princeton alumnus David Hunter McAlpin (Class of 1920), the residence reflects classic craftsmanship and refined proportions. McAlpin, a key figure in establishing MoMA's photography department and endowing Princeton University's first chair in photography history, turned the property into a cultural salon where he hosted icons like Ansel Adams, Georgia O'Keeffe, Alfred Stieglitz, Eliot Porter, and Edward Weston. The three-level interior includes 6+ bedrooms, 9.5 bathrooms, a barrel-vaulted living room opening to the pool, and a gourmet kitchen with dual islands and premium appliances. Additional highlights include a home theater, a first-floor guest suite, an apartment suite above the 3-car garage, and a resort-style pool house - blending seclusion with historic significance.
