About this home

Some homes have character. Others have a history worth preserving. Dating to 1883 according to county tax records, the Russell-McFarland Homestead is a remarkable piece of Burnet's architectural heritage. Recognized by the Texas Historical Commission with an Official Texas Historical Medallion, this Victorian residence offers 1,844 square feet of timeless character on a 0.496-acre corner lot with mature trees. From its welcoming porches to the exceptional craftsmanship found throughout, this home tells a story more than 140 years in the making. Soaring 12-foot ceilings, incredible wood floors, tall windows, and beautiful period woodwork reflect an era when attention to detail was an art form. Among its most extraordinary features are the original solid wood pocket doors, showcasing richly figured wood panels and remarkable 19th-century craftsmanship. These substantial doors are architectural treasures rarely found today. The two-bedroom, two-bath residence offers generously proportioned rooms filled with natural light. A fireplace in the dining room and another in a bedroom add distinctive character. The primary suite features built-in shelving, a private bath, and French doors opening to back porch and courtyard. Three inviting porches extend the living spaces outdoors, while a fenced courtyard provides a more private setting. Additional features include a detached carport, exterior storage, metal roof, and central heating and air conditioning. Just moments from Burnet's historic courthouse square, enjoy convenient access to downtown shops, restaurants, and the Highland Lakes region, including Lake Buchanan and Inks Lake State Park. The Russell-McFarland Homestead offers something increasingly difficult to find: authentic Victorian craftsmanship, architectural significance and a documented place in Texas history.
