About this home

Interior photos are virtually staged. Originally built in 1865 by H.C. Hodde, 404 College Avenue is a beautifully restored historic home where timeless architecture and thoughtful modern updates come together with exceptional care. Set on more than half an acre in town, this rare property offers the character, scale, and outdoor space so often sought but seldom found in the heart of Brenham. Per the owner, the home now offers approximately 2,463 square feet and has been meticulously renovated while preserving the warmth and craftsmanship of its historic origins. Original hardwood floors have been refinished both downstairs and upstairs, while crown molding, shiplap ceilings and walls, updated window trim, new sash cords, and fresh interior and exterior paint help honor the home's period character. Behind the scenes, major improvements include updated plumbing and electrical throughout, added insulation in the walls and attic, a tankless water heater, new storage closet underneath stairs, new washer and dryer, new AC registers, and new lighting throughout the home. The kitchen has been completely reimagined for today's living, featuring custom cabinetry, new appliances, quartz countertops, new flooring, and a refined finish that feels both fresh and appropriate to the home's historic setting. The primary suite is equally compelling, offering generous proportions, a beautifully updated bath, new flooring, new cabinetry, fixtures, and tile-comfortable for modern buyers while still feeling connected to the home's heritage. Upstairs, one of the home's most memorable spaces is the large bonus room with a full bath and distinctive architectural details. The Victorian turret is surrounded by windows and offers wide-open views of the property, making it a natural spot for a reading nook, office, studio, or quiet retreat. With its size and flexibility, this room could also serve beautifully as a guest suite, media room, playroom, or creative space. Additional updates include a new upstairs bath, new cabinets and vanities in all bathrooms, new bathroom fixtures and tile, and improvements to the garage, including new siding and a raised ceiling. Outside, the expansive backyard is a true standout-one of the larger in-town lots in Brenham, with room for entertaining, gardening, pets, outdoor living, or future enhancements. Historic, graceful, extensively updated, and set on a remarkable lot, 404 College Avenue offers the rare opportunity to own a piece of Brenham's history without sacrificing the comfort and function expected today.
