About this home

A legendary Georgica Pond estate with nearly a quarter-mile of waterfront, Briar Patch is among the most important legacy properties ever offered in East Hampton. Spanning 11.2+/- acres across two separate parcels and encompassing approximately 13,800+/- square feet of living space, this extraordinary compound offers an unrivaled combination of privacy, scale, architectural pedigree, and natural beauty. Five distinct structures comprise the estate, including the main residence, a guest house designed by renowned architect Peter Marino, a pool cabana, and two garages. Surrounded by rolling lawns, mature specimen trees, and protected natural landscapes, the property presents a rare opportunity to own one of the Hamptons' most distinguished waterfront compounds. Commanding sweeping southwestern views across Georgica Pond to the Atlantic Ocean beyond, Briar Patch captures some of the most spectacular sunsets on the East End. Expansive terraces, patios, and outdoor entertaining spaces create a seamless connection between the residences and the breathtaking waterfront setting. Originally constructed in 1931, the main residence-known as the Shephard Krech House-was designed by noted architect Arthur C. Jackson, whose work included contributions to the New York Public Library and the celebrated East Hampton estate Lasata, the childhood summer home of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Rich in architectural character and timeless elegance, the residence offers six bedrooms, eight full baths, and two half baths. At its heart is a magnificent double-height living room with soaring vaulted ceilings, clerestory windows, and a grand fireplace. Throughout the home, French doors open to sun-drenched terraces overlooking Georgica Pond, creating an effortless indoor-outdoor lifestyle. Positioned on its own 3.7+/- acre parcel, the guest house was designed by Peter Marino and serves as a private retreat for family and guests. Featuring four ensuite bedrooms, four full baths, a powder room, a full kitchen, and a coffered-ceiling living room with fireplace, the residence reflects Marino's signature sophistication while complementing the historic character of the estate. A heated gunite pool and spa are nestled between the two homes amid lush landscaping. Nearby, a Har-Tru tennis court and pool cabana with a full bath and outdoor shower provide exceptional recreational amenities. Nature trails wind through the grounds, leading past mature woodlands, natural landscaping, and a private pond. From the estate, one can kayak, paddleboard, or sail across Georgica Pond toward the Atlantic Ocean. Ideally situated south of the highway on coveted Briar Patch Road, the property is moments from East Hampton Village, world-renowned ocean beaches, fine dining, luxury shopping, and cultural attractions. Rich in history, architectural significance, and natural beauty, Briar Patch represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to own a Hamptons legacy estate of unparalleled stature, provenance, and distinction.
