About this home

A truly special High Country property offering the combination buyers search for but rarely find in one place-25.3 acres, frontage along the South Fork of the New River, elevated long-range layered mountain views, privacy, abundant wildlife and an authentic 1952 brick mountain home. Located on scenic Railroad Grade Road in Todd, this property places you along one of the most enjoyable recreational corridors in the North Carolina mountains. The gentle river-valley roadway is made for walking, jogging and bicycling beside the South Fork of the New River, or a day of fishing, kayaking, canoeing, tubing or a picnic beside the water. The acreage extends from the river corridor upward into the mountains, creating an unusually diverse property with both waterfront and elevated mountain terrain. The county tax record identifies 25.3 acres as "rural undeveloped waterfront land." Higher portions of the property rise above 3,000 feet and offer beautiful, long-distance layered views across the surrounding Appalachian Mountains. Enjoy cool summer evenings, spectacular fall color, snow-covered winter landscapes and the unmistakable beauty of four-season mountain living. For the outdoor enthusiast, the property is a natural playground. Explore the acreage, hike through diverse mountain vegetation, watch deer and other abundant wildlife, fish the New River or launch a canoe or kayak for a day on the water. The Todd area also provides convenient access to many of the High Country's outdoor destinations, including the Blue Ridge Parkway, hiking trails, state parks and recreational areas. At the heart of the property sits a 1,290-square-foot, two-bedroom brick home built in 1952. Built with the solid simplicity and character of an earlier era, the home features beautiful local woods on portions of the interior walls and floors, two brick fireplaces and a setting that feels completely at home in the Appalachian landscape. The residence is supplied by a clear, continuously flowing mountain spring. The property also offers useful supporting improvements, including a 20' x 18' detached garage, a 30' x 20' shed and additional outbuildings, adding valuable storage and flexibility for equipment, recreational gear, workshop space or agricultural use. Perhaps most compelling is the freedom provided by a large mountain tract reported without zoning or restrictive covenants. Whether your vision includes a mountain estate, family retreat, homestead, recreational property, hunting and fishing getaway, farm, investment property or simply preserving a remarkable piece of Appalachian land, 4908 Railroad Grade Road offers possibilities that smaller or more controlled mountain properties simply cannot match. This is much more than a house on acreage. It is an opportunity to own a substantial piece of the New River Valley-where the mountains, river and land come together in one extraordinary setting. Come walk the land. Follow it to the river. Climb to the views. Experience the quiet. Properties combining 25+ acres, New River frontage, mountain views and unrestricted character are increasingly difficult to duplicate in the North Carolina High Country.
