About this home

Some houses simply occupy a place; others feel as though they have always belonged to it. Built in 1830, 10 Hampton Street is woven into the fabric of Sag Harbor Village-a historic home with an unmistakably modern spirit, beautifully layered interiors and a private garden hidden just beyond Main Street. Previously renovated by AD100 designer Steven Gambrel, the residence has since been reimagined by its current owner in collaboration with Kelly Wearstler. The result is sophisticated yet wonderfully personal: expressive color, unexpected details, warm wood floors and two fireplaces, all within rooms that invite you to settle in and stay awhile. The living and dining rooms are made for long evenings with friends, while the custom kitchen opens directly to the garden. Beyond it, mature plantings designed by Marders surround an expansive bluestone patio-an enchanting setting for candlelit dinners, leisurely summer lunches and garden parties that continue well after dark. An outdoor shower is tucked discreetly among the greenery. Upstairs, the dramatic double-height primary suite is a romantic refuge, with a generous sitting area and an intimate sense of escape. Two additional bedrooms, a cozy den and television room, and a private office that also serves as the fourth bedroom provide flexibility for family and guests. A finished attic offers another atmospheric retreat, while the partially finished basement provides abundant storage and useful everyday space. Here, village life begins at the front door. Morning coffee, fresh bread and gourmet provisions are around the corner at Sag Harbor's coffee shops, bakeries, cheese shops and farmers market. The waterfront, boating, shopping, restaurants, cultural institutions, fitness studios and Hampton Jitney are all close at hand. There is off-street parking for three cars, but little reason to use one. Historic, worldly and full of personality, 10 Hampton Street combines the ease of townhouse living with something far more elusive: a private house and garden with a character entirely their own.
